Lucas Tree lights up Our House

For the past six years Lucas Tree Experts of Portland has donated and installed a festive holiday lights display that transforms our front yard into a warm and glowing winter wonderland. An 86-year-old family-owned business, Lucas Tree lights up Our House as part of its long-standing commitment to support the Greater Portland community.

“We know that the holidays are supposed to be a happy time of year, but there are many families facing difficulties,” explains Jon Hanisko, Consulting Arborist of Lucas Tree. Employees as a group decided to donate this service to Ronald McDonald House to lift the spirits of the families. “If we can do something to help to give them joy and put smiles on their faces, we want to do it,” Jon says.

Work on the display begins in November. Volunteers from Lucas Treeʼs Christmas Decor franchise install thousands of lights, adding more each year as our trees grow taller. Calvin Ames is the foreman, working with Jared Ames. From laying out the power cords to lighting up the trees, the process usually takes a two-man crew one full day. The caring crew at Lucas Tree maintains the display as needed, and dismantles it after the New Year.

“When your child is sick and you are far from home, the holidays can be difficult,” says House Manager Gabrielle Little. “We are so grateful to Lucas Tree and our many other supporters who help brighten Our House and bring cheer to our families.”
