Happy 15th Birthday to RMH Portland!

May 25, 2010 - 5:29pm

On Saturday May 22 the sun was shining on 250 Brackett Street when nearly 100 family, friends, and supporters of the Ronald McDonald House turned out to celebrate the 15 years the House’s doors have been opened to families of pediatric patients at Portland’s nearby hospitals.

Making this House a Home are the shift volunteers, guest chefs, weekend managers and the many other volunteers who donate their time 365 days a year.  The event not only commemorated the organization’s birthday, but also the commitment by the nearly 300 volunteers.  The Tash Family, who stayed 206 days at the House captured the moment when they so poignantly expressed, “We truly believe that the House was the single biggest factor in Ben’s successful recovery. For that, my family is forever grateful to the Ronald McDonald House and its selfless volunteers.”

Joe Foley - who spearheaded this effort with the Maine McDonald owner/operators, medical staff, business and corporate partners, foundations and the community at large in May 1995 - served as Top Chef Grill Master, with sous-chefs Sheila Peabody, Rob Horne, Dave Hamilton and Jan Hamilton.  We thank our McDonald’s Owner/Operators Jan and David Hamilton and Steve Goble for generously donating food items.

Families who stayed at the House over the past 15 years dropped in to enjoy the BBQ and extend their appreciation to the House and its dedicated volunteers.
